September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and I’m helping raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
I first came across St. Jude through Relay FM’s yearly charity drive for the organisation, most notably through their yearly podcastathon and through conversations about the organisation in various podcasts. Since then every year I’ve donated to St. Jude, though this year I thought I’d do something more.
Those that know me well know that I tend to do a lot of walking, and that if I have some down time, there’s a decent chance I’ve gone off and wandered somewhere. I thought this year I would put this so good use and essentially do a month long charity walk, more specifically that I would donate an amount that matches how far I have walked in September.
How will I come up with the final number? I tend to keep an Apple Watch on my wrist at almost all times (it’s only ever off if its charging, and that’s either when I’m sat at a desk or in the shower), and the Activity app gives me a distance and step count each day. I’ll use its stats as a guide and will donate $1 for every mile I walk, so the further I walk around, the larger my final donation.
If you similarly think this is a worthy cause you can also donate money to St. Jude this month using the donate button at the top of the page. Alternatively you can watch my progress through the spreadsheet below. My aim is to update this spreadsheet either last thing at night or first thing in the morning.
Thanks for helping, following, and donating!
