Si Walks for St Jude (2024)
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and following the overwhelming support doing this in 2023 I am helping raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital again through a month long sponsored walk, as part of the larger Relay community campaign.
This year’s fundraiser mostly follows the same style as last year - I total up the distance I walk across the month and donate $1 for every mile walked. During that time if anyone is inspired and wants to donate as well - that’s awesome! Thank you for your generosity.
The only difference this time around is a) the distance - this year I am aiming for 300 miles in the month; and b) compared to last year where I transcribed statistics from the Fitness app on my phone at the end of each day, this time tracking distance is automated and on a more frequent schedule, so we should be able to see more timely updates1.

The sync action is set to run once an hour and its success depends on network conditions, etc. but for all intents and purposes is far more timely than anyone would otherwise want. I also aim at some part during this month to describe exactly how the automation works. ↩
